Flora in Saxapahaw North Carolina

Top photograph:  Dogwood flowers, the last of them in late Spring, protected from the hot sun by a large oak tree.

Middle:  Someone please comment and let me know what this is (Update, it appears to be “Leatherleaf Mahonia.”)   Mature plantings of the plant on the sloped bank under the Saxapahaw store buildings.

Bottom photograph:  Sure sign Summer is on its way, honeysuckle.

  1. The middle one is a holly variety; it looks like Ilex, but it’s probably old/heirloom so may be some other less (now) common variety in that family.

  2. Is is possible that it is a mahonia? We had something like that growing in our yard at our old home.
