Urban landscape downtown in Lexington North Carolina. North State Street, sidewalk. The entrance, drive-up window to the local utility payment office (to the left of the frame of the photograph). A telephone booth, calling your attention in red. Winter scorched grass and ill cared for shrubbery. A florist, “Love Blossoms,” housed in a modernist office building of concrete and wooden beams and thin ribbon windows. The spage-age globe streetlight a survivor of the 1960’s in which the modernist building was erected. The space race to the moon come to the piedmont South, a furniture-making hub. In the background a house; built in the 1930’s, not far enough from downtown. Now engulfed in the commercial district. An attorney’s office maybe, as this is the courthouse town.
